Chocoholics and Easter egg enthusiasts get excited! As supermarket shelves, cafe menus and social media feeds are bursting at the seems with choccy eggs and in case you missed the Easter egg buzz from 2017, let's reminisce over a cup of coffee... a chocolate cup.
So has our deep dark desire for eggs-travagance going too far? Or are we eggs-actly where we should be?
You be the judge, as we highlight the delicious, the creative and perhaps the downright outrageous Easter eggs that are leaving their marks on 2018 AND on consumers far and wide. We guarantee that some of them are just too pretty and just too cool to eat, right? (Read: centrepiece first, sweet snack later.)
The G&T
The Treat Kitchen is appealing to big kids with their very own gin-and-tonic-flavoured egg. If G&Ts aren't your bag, they also offer a prosecco and strawberry-flavoured version. Both are made with white chocolate and are more than happy to take charge of happy hour.
The cheese?
British Supermarket Asda is selling an egg made entirely out of cheese, which is appealing more to savoury fans. This cheeseball comes with crumbly mini oatcakes and a caramelised onion chutney.
The housing crisis
Avo inspo for all occasions and for the record there is no avo in them. A blend of milk and white chocolate in the shape of the beloved (and at times rather wild) stone fruit minus any of the creamy or savoury notes, this is a fruity tribute without the need of feta, salt or pepper to see it over the line.
The Sorting Hat
Crack open this egg and all will be revealed. Slattery's Patissier & Chocolatier have conjured up a Hogwarts-inspired treat that Harry Potter fans and the wizarding world will go gaga over. A milk chocolate egg filled with chocolate chips and a paper scroll bearing your house. This may have just topped your Easter egg wishlist.
The egg sando
Thanks to Hotel Chocolat's online shop and the likes of a 3D scanner, this lunchtime sandwich may have just validated your chocolate-as-a-meal desires. They come in white, dark and milk varieties, as well as a caramel chocolate version that taps into a malty, caramel chocolate with notes of dulce de leche. No egg boiling required.
The bling
24kt magic is in the air, thanks to this Creme Egg Easter cocktail from Sweetie & Moustache Dessert Lounge in Melbourne. Easter eggs just got a whole lot more fancy pants...
The espresso martini
Combining the likes of espresso with chocolate is this Eggspresso egg from none other than Sydney's, , the Wonka-style sweets shop that will change what you think about chocolate. Eggs-ibit A...
The mother of all dragons
Engineer turned pastry chef and chocolatier David Chow is breathing new life into his Easter egg creations. It's a party in the front, a party in the back and quite frankly, a party all over for these dragon eggs. They make the pantry cupboard chocolate stash look mediocre.
The churros chariot
Available for a very limited time over the Easter weekend are these churros bowls - milk Cadbury chocolate filled with piping hot churros and covered in a white chocolate dipping sauce.
The yokes on them
So, what's inside?
1. Passionfruit yolk, white choc gelato with a dark choc shell
2. Mango yolk, cheesecake gelato with a caramel white choc shell
3. Yellow peach yolk, vanilla gelato with a milk choc shell
Choose wisely, or all three.
The frees have it
The eggs are here. Gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, these homemade eggs are also vegan-friendly as well. Don't let dietary restrictions hold you back from the sweet life this long weekend.
