From Manus to Geneva Abdul Aziz Adam highlights the conditions in detention

Abdul Aziz Adam left Manus Island temporarily to receive an international human rights award in Geneva, while there he addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council asking for an end to the detention of refugees and asylum seekers in Manus and Nauru.

Abdul Aziz Muhamat, a Sundanese refugee who has been detained for nearly six years, urged the council to hold the Australian government accountable for the treatment of refugees.

Speaking on behalf of the Human Rights Law Centre, the 25-year-old said: “After 6 years, we deserve our lives back and a future. We urge your mandates to take this up with the Australian government, which deserves to be held accountable by this Council.”
