News bulletin of the day

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is reportedly unwilling to sign up to a key United Nations international migration agreement.

News Corp reports Mr Morrison believes the U-N's Global Compact on Migration would weaken Australia's border security and undermine its immigration policies.

The agreement is supposed to support safe and orderly migration.

But a key sticking point for the Prime Minister is the document's failure to differentiate between "legal" and "illegal" migration when it comes to welfare benefits.

Other countries that have refused to sign up to the agreement include the United States, Israel, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
