Police appeal for information after death of Bangladeshi woman in Sydney

A man has been arrested after a 23-year-old woman of Bangladeshi origin was found dead at a Wentworthville property yesterday.

About 2.40 am (Wednesday 14 October 2020), emergency services were called to a home on Lane Street, Wentworthville, in Western Sydney after reports a woman had been injured.  

Officers and paramedics arrived to find an unresponsive 23-year-old woman, who was unable to be revived.

"We believe she has been assaulted, but we are unsure if any weapon was used," Detective Acting Superintendent Simon Glasser told the ABC.

"It is a tragic outcome — we are taking it extremely seriously and we have established a strike force to investigate the circumstances of this murder."  

At around 1100 today (Thursday) police arrested a 24-year-old man at Astoria Court, Maroubra.  The man was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he is assisting with police inquiries. 

Police confirmed to SBS the woman was of Bangladeshi origin.
