Obesity

Obesity Source: AAP

Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show almost two out of three Australian adults are either clinically obese or overweight.

Obesity is defined as a high level of body fat in relation to your lean mass. It can be measured using a calculation called Body Mass Index (BMI) which plots your weight against the square of your height. (BMI = Wt/H2) The higher your BMI the greater your risk of major illnesses (co-morbidities) like diabetes, heart disease or some cancers. Not everyone who is obese has associated health problems.
