2004年12月26日，一场9.1级海底地震袭击了印度尼西亚苏门答腊岛海岸240公里处。

随后的几个小时内，地震引发的海啸以每小时800 公里的速度席卷印度洋。

它给14个国家带来了灾难，摧毁了东南亚和南亚的整个社区，并影响到远至东非的沿海地区。

总共至少有22万5千人丧生。
