Deborah was awarded with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2004 for service to the community in the areas of social justice, reconciliation and multiculturalism.

 

She continues on her advocacies for women, promoting reconciliation in this country between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians by using poetry, oral history and any articles to bring awareness to on the reality of what's happening in the ground.
