In Australia, approximately 775,000 people aged 55 and older care for their grandchildren or younger individuals. We spoke with a few residents from New South Wales about the key Filipino values they learned from their grandparents and hope to pass on to the younger generation.

Key Points
  • According to the 2021 Census, over 775,000 people aged 55 provide some sort of care to younger kids. Two in five grandparents with a grandchild aged under 13 years were providing some child care.
  • As Filipinos are among the top five migrants in Australia, with almost 400,000 across the country, we asked a couple of NSW residents to share what Filipino values they want to preserve among the young Filipino Australians.
  • Among their top Filipino values are respect, kindness, and generosity, along with a strong sense of entrepreneurship and thriftiness.
