Is the best croissant in the world actually Australian?

According to the New York Times, the best croissant in the world might not be French.

is well-known by Melburnians for its buttery croissants and long wait on the weekend.

Kate Reid, an ex-aerospace engineer, opened Lune in 2012, in Elwood, after an apprenticeship at famous Parisian bakery Du Pain et des Idées. Her brother joined her in 2015 to open a bigger and better Lune, in Fitzroy.

Lune Croissanterie was always loved by locals, but it's popularity skyrocketed after last year. Journalist Oliver Strand said the "etheral" croissant was worth travelling to Australia for: "But the classic beurre, with its holy balance of buttery heft and feathery flake, may be the finest you will find anywhere in the world, and alone worth a trip across the dateline."
If you want to judge by yourself, Lune Croissanterie is open from Thursday to Monday. If you can go during the week, you might be able to avoid the long lines.

You can get the traditional croissants, pains au chocolat or kouign-amanns, but also cruffins (a mix between a croissant and a muffin), croissants stuffed with cheese and plenty of original creations.
If you're able to score a seat, the Lune Lab hosts special degustations a few times a month.
