Pfizer CEO awarded by Greece’s President

Albert Bourla was awarded the medal of the Golden Cross of the Order of the Redeemer by President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

At a ceremony that took place at the presidential mansion in Athens on Tuesday, four Greeks received top honours in recognition of their work and contributions to the country.

Awarding the medal to Mr Bourla Ms Sakellaropoulou praised his work in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Hailing from a family of Holocaust survivors, he was able to realise his vision and apply scientific innovations that led to the discovery of the vaccine, making the whole world to believe that the impossible is possible.”

Mr Bourla stated “blessed” for the distinctions he has received thus far, naming the medal of the Golden Cross of the Order of the Redeemer as the most important of all.

Following the ceremony, Mr Bourla was asked by a reporter about his take on the pandemic outlook.

The Pfizer CEO made mention to plans underway for an annual vaccine against the virus which is hoped to “make the biggest difference”.
