To celebrate the 105th anniversary of the liberation of Macedonia, the Macquarie University Greek Association (MUGA) and Sydney University Greek Society (SUGS) are screening a short film from the acclaimed ERT Greek series Ελλήνων Δρώμενα / Ellinon Dromena on the celebrated ‘Roumlouki’ dance of Central Macedonia.

The ‘Roumlouki’ is a historic Macedonian Greek dance performed exclusively by women in traditional costume and headdress, said to have evolved from a famous gift bestowed upon the women of Imathia by none other than Alexander the Great.

The screening, which is in Greek with English subtitles, is approx. 40 minutes and will be followed by a live performance of the ‘Roumlouki’ by the Hellenic Lyceum Sydney.

The screening will be held in the Eastern Avenue Lecture Theatre at the University of Sydney campus and will be completed by 8:30pm. Light refreshments will be served for guests.
