Thanasis Spanos, the owner of Lonsdale Street’s historical “Medallion” dies in Melbourne

The Greek community of Melbourne is mourning one of its most known, businessman Mr Thanasis Spanos.


He was the owner of the shop “Medallion” in Lonsdale Street, where many Greeks used to meet in the past decades.

After that shop he opened another at the  so-called “Greek” suburb of Oakleigh. His friends and co-workers used to call him “a modern Zorba of Australia.

The president of the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria Mr Bill Papasetrgiadis expressed his condolences with an article at “Neos Kosmos”. The football team South Melbourne also expressed their condolences. The deceased was sponsor of the club for many years.

Thanasis Spanos passed away last Friday. The details of his funeral will be known in the next few days.
