An all-girls Australian robotics team of 24 students from Blacktown Girls High School is heading off to the United States this weekend (april 14-15) seeking to win a world championship. SBS Radio spoke to team's co-captains Ridham Walia and Dipshika Lal.

In a male-dominated field, the girls from Blacktown Girls High School have become trailblazers for other girls keen to pursue subjects in science and technology.

A team of 24 students from Blacktown Girls High School in Sydney's west is set to compete in a three-day international robotics tournament in the US city of Houston next week.

The team will compete with around 400 teams from over 60 countries.

The Blacktown girls have spent over 120 hours creating their robot Gus, using their school holidays and weekends to work on the project.

They were Australia's first all-girls team to enter the championships when they formed five years ago.
