Australian Taxation Office has issued a scam alert.

In a facebook post on Tuesday, 22nd November, ATO warned Australians about an email scam doing the rounds in their name.
These fake emails include a message like ‘Confirmation is required’ or ‘Action is required’ to encourage you to click a link or open an attachment.

Once you’ve clicked, malicious software downloads to your computer blocking you from accessing your files until you pay a ransom.

ATO says that if you’ve received this email, do not click on the link or attachment, just forward it to ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au.

Warn your family and friends in Australia.

This is not first scam alert issued by ATO. Many such fraudulent emails are circulated in ATO’s name. Learn about more scams at .
