Diwali Special: Namak Para

This is an Indian traditional snack enjoyed with a cup of tea.

Namak Para or Namak Pare are pastry like crunchy snack lightly seasoned with carom seeds. This is an Indian traditional snack enjoyed with a cup of tea. You can also eat it with spiced mango or lemon pickle.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 4-5 tbsp oil
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Warm water as needed
  • 1 tsp carom seeds/ajwain

Method

  • In a bowl add the flour, salt, carom seeds, and 4-5 tbsp of oil.
  • Mix all these ingredients well.
  • Add warm water gradually and knead it into a tight dough.
  • Let it sit for 20 mins.
  • After 20 mins, roll the dough into the desired thickness and cut into long diamond strips.
  • Heat the oil for frying.
  • Add the strips to the oil and fry till golden brown.
They are now ready to eat. You can store them in a air tight container too to eat later. They taste yum with some chai. Enjoy!
