Gangster Chhota Rajan had allegedly got his passport issued twice from Indian missions abroad.
According to chargesheet filed by India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday, Chhota Rajan had succeeded in acquiring a fake passport in the name of Mohan Kumar from Bengaluru passport office in 1998.
Based on this fake identification, he went onto get it re-issued, not once, but twice. For the first time, he got it re-issued from the High Commission of India in Harare, Zimbabwe. Second time, he got it re-issued from India’s Consulate General in Sydney.
Don Chhota Rajan was arrested from Bali in Indonesia when he was travelling on fake passport. He was arrested by the Indonesian Police on 25th October 2015 and extradited to India on 6th November 2015.
CBI is investigating how passport officers at the Bengaluru Passport Office issued a passport on fake identity and address. They will also be questioning police officers who would have conducted physical verification.
Meanwhile, Chhota Rajan is currently lodged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
