A month after the alleged suicide of Melbourne resident Ramya Krishna, her in-laws have been arrested by the Cyberabad police in India on Friday on charges of dowry harassment.

Ramya Krishna's father-in-law Subhramaniam and mother-in-law Suguna were arrested and brought to Hyderabad after a family member of the victim lodged a complaint under 304 B (dowry death) of IPC.

"The in-laws were arrested and her husband Mahant, who is in Melbourne, was also booked. We are trying to get him deported,'' KPHB inspector Kushalkar told Times of India.

28-year-old Ramya Krishna allegedly hanged herself in May this year in Melbourne.
On May 28 night, her husband, Mahant flew to Hyderabad, left the body at the airport and flew back to Australia.

Before returning to Australia, he took Ramya's passport from her family.

Family members of Ramya have revealed that the couple had a spat the day Ramya allegedly committed suicide. They have also alleged that Ramya might have suppressed the mental and physical harassment meted out to her by Mahant in Australia.

The family also alleged that Mahant took Ramya’s passport to claim her superannuation and other financial benefits.
