In this week’s episode of the web series- IT’S MY DESI LIFE we are exploring the lives of Dr. Amit Kalra and Dr. Ravinder Kalra, who are dentists by profession based in Newcastle, NSW.
Amit & Ravinder were college sweethearts. They first met in Lucknow's prestigious King George Medical College during their graduation in dentistry and fell in love instantly.
Amit is a typical energetic Delhi-ite and Ravinder - a relaxed and an easy going person from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
After getting married in 2004, they both worked in Delhi for a while but wanted to move to either Canada or Australia.
After much discussion, they decided to migrate to Australia as students.
Migrating to Australia with their 18-month old son Arnav doubled their responsibility.

With a master’s degree in dentistry under her belt Ravinder enrolled herself for the post graduate diploma at university of Wollongong while Amit kept looking for work to support the family.
Like many migrants’, initial days were not pleasant but this couple remained strong and fought this time together, being each other’s pillar of strength at every moment.
After Wollongong, they lived in Parramatta for quite some time and later shifted to Newcastle as it seemed the right place for people pursuing a similar profession.
They often felt homesick but as days passed they built a strong and supportive social circle which helped them and kept things going.
Today they own three dental clinics in Newcastle, and have everything they had dreamt off.

Their families visit Australia quite often, and their children Arnav and Rehan have beautifully imbibed in them the Indian values and traditions.
From pyjama parties, to social and cultural get togethers, the Kalra family never miss out on having fun with kids, friends and other family members.
They believe in spending good quality time with their children and always manage to find time for vacations and religious activities.
Watch the whole story as they reveal some deeper insights of their journey so far and their love for Australia.
