Its been exactly a year since 41-year-old Prabha Kumar was fatally stabbed in the neck as she was speaking to her husband on her mobile phone while walking home near Parramatta Railway station on 7th March 2015 night.

But the identity of her killer still remains a mystery.

The investigation by the NSW Police has led nowhere. Inspite of speaking to 2000 people as part of their inquiry and examining the CCTV footage multiple times, the police has not been able to identify her killer.

Days before Prabha’s first death anniversary, emerged that NSW Police was now looking at the possibilities of her death being a planned murder by someone known to her in India.

“We have considered the possibility that an offender had (helped commit or been involved with) this crime outside of Australia,” Detective Sergeant Ritchie Sim had told Fairfax Media.

“There are aspects of Mrs. Kumar’s life that need to be explored further,” the detectives have been quoted in a report in The Sydney Morning Herald.

But these in India. Confused by the statements that have appeared in Australian media, Prabha’s husband Arun Kumar expressed his scepticism over the line of investigation leading to India.
“My wife was a normal woman and she had no enemies either in the family or among friends here. I don’t think it is possible for a person in India to organise her killing in Australia. Moreover, I am dumbfounded by this theory as I find no motive for anybody known to us to murder her this way. We don’t want any innocents to be targeted,” he told The Hindu last week. “The cops haven’t been in touch with the family. The last time I spoke to them was in November 2015 when I had been to Australia to inaugurate a memorial plaque for my wife in Parramatta Park,” he said, and added that he came to know of the reported new claims of a lead leading to India only through Australian media reports.
Meanwhile in Australia, a vigil has been planned at the pathway between Argyle and Amos streets today in Parramatta, Sydney at 7pm, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of her death.
