An Indian-origin taxi driver in Brisbane has been praised as the most honest cabbie.

Gurpal Singh was showered with praises from the Australian community after he handed back $14,000 in cash that was left by a passenger in his cab.

A passenger forgot a wad of cash in the front passenger seat in Gurpal Singh's cab.

Singh did not once think of keeping it for himself.

"Thats like a too much money. That's like lotto," Mr. Singh told 7News.

Mr. Singh believed that the cash was someone's hard-earned saved money and there was no way he could have kept it.

Turned out that the passenger had saved that money for his medical expenses.

Mr. Singh, who drives a Black & White taxi in Brisbane had a satisfied smile on his face when he told 7News that the money had been returned to its rightful owner.

He got a box of chocolates in return.

"I got chocolates and I gave it to my son. He is very happy," he said.
Mr. Singh has been showered with praises on Facebook for his honest deed.

"What a good man. I would have enjoyed seeing him getting a bigger reward. I'd have given him at least $1000. I hope next time I catch a taxi it is this guy because I'd like to personally thank him for being such a humble and honest man," Adrian Hansen wrote.
