India will allow Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and foreigners to book their rail tickets almost a year in advance, reports.

Railways Ministry is expected to make this announcement this week which will allow those residing abroad to book their tickets 360 days in advance instead of the present 120 days.

With an aim to attract more tourists and to boost the revenue, the railways will felicitate ‘quick-easy’ ticket booking for foreigners and NRI travelers.

This service will be on offer for first AC, second AC and executive class of Mail Express trains as well as in Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Gatimaan Express and Tejas trains.

The facility provided by the railways, does not permit the foreigners to get their tickets booked in sleeper and third AC of trains.

This move is aimed at providing adequate time to the foreigners and NRI travelers so that they can plan well in advance.

The foreign travelers will be required to give visa details, passport and international mobile numbers while booking tickets online through the official railways ticketing site.

The ministry is likely to levy a charge for this service.
