Lawrence Dimech, retires from all community positions

Recently Lawrence Dimech, announced his retirement from all community positions. Chris Bowen, Minister for Climate Change and Energy paid tribute to his life of service and that of his wife Marlene in Parliament.


Lawrence Dimech has been a pioneer of Maltese journalism in Australia. He founded the national weekly The Maltese Herald which he also edited until 1971 and The Voice of the Maltese.

Dimech served as a consul for Malta in NSW (1971-77). He was a founding member of Melita Eagles Paramatta Soccer Club and past president of the Maltese Community Council of NSW.

From 1977 till 1985, Dimech was appointed by the Australian Federal Government as director/co-ordinator of the Parramatta Migrant Resource Centre.
