'Year of the Eagle': Melbourne's Gurung community celebrates Tamu Lhosar

Tamu Lhosar is celebrated by the Gurung community annually on 15 Poush according to the Nepali calendar. Marking the beginning of the year of the eagle, Melbourne's Gurung community celebrated Lhosar on Sunday, 31 December 2023 at an event organised by Tamu Samaj Victoria in Estonian House, Brunswick. Participants spoke to SBS Nepali about the importance of this day, and how the Nepali-speaking second generation in Australia in learning to carry the tradition forward.
