Key health information not understood by 75% of new migrants

It's hoped new educational resources can help address very low rates of health literacy among those newest to the country. A new video and health fact sheet have been launched, aiming to address the issue. Around 60 per cent of Australians has low health literacy, which means they don’t properly understand the information given to them by a doctor or health professional. Health literacy rates are even lower in those born in non-English-speaking countries, with three-quarters ((75%)) of people who have come to Australia from a non-English speaking country having trouble understanding health information. Health literacy expert Gulchera Mangal says its fundamental for Pashtuns to learn about the health system in Australia.
