Carregadores de malas, funcionários de catering e de manutenção dos aeroportos australianos estarão sujeitos a testes para posse de explosivos, como parte das novas medidas de segurança nos aeroportos do país.


O governo de Malcolm Turnbull fez o anúncio o anúncio no domingo, 22 de outubro.

A decisão vem meses após um alegado plano de levar explosivos para dentro de um avião - plano este que foi descoberto a tempo.

O ministro federal dos Transportes, Darren Chester, disse que as novas medidas de segurança vão garantir que os funcionários dos aeroportos com acesso a áreas restritas estarão também treinados de forma apropriada antes de ingressar nestas áreas.

"What that means is there will be added explosive trace detection at screening points as they go to work or potentially while they are in that zone, while they are working in that zone. They will be random and they will allow for a level of unpredictability around that point so they can check a person and also vehicles for explosive traces. It's a bit like when you and some of us who travel regularly go through security zones as a passenger you can be picked out and have that trace detection, well there's going to be more of that occurring from now on around the airport-side workers."
