A 53-year-old Indian national was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat at the Grad Forks International airport in North Dakota in the United States on Saturday.

Paraman Radhakrishnan from the Indian state of Gujarat is in police custody and is facing terrorism charges for allegedly telling a travel agent that he had an explosive in his bag.

The airport had to be evacuated and the operations suspended until police carried out searches and did not find any explosives.

reported that Mr Radhakrishan was set to board a flight from Grand Forks to Minneapolis. It’s not clear why he is accused of making the threat. Police told the local media that he may have become disgruntled with the airport staff.

They said regardless of the reason for any threat of this nature at an airport is taken seriously.

Radhakrishnan's friends and family in India claim he is being falsely implicated. They have sought help from the Indian government to get him back to India.
India’s Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has sought a report from the Indian ambassador to the US with regard to the incident.
