A woman was attacked and left bleeding when she confronted a man allegedly racially abusing a woman of Indian appearance at a Melbourne supermarket.

The incident occurred at the Coles supermarket at Preston on January 6 when Simone Wiebenga saw a man launching a racial tirade at the woman at the self-service checkout.

When Ms Wiebenga stepped in, the man turned on her, throwing items at her head.

“He was calling her a f&^%$#& black c&^$, a black dog, and saying what are you doing here,” Ms Wiebenga told .

She said the alleged offender was a “big bloke” and he was using his body to bully and intimidate the woman.

Ms Wiebenga, who has a heart condition, was left bleeding from the head and a customer ran to help her.
Police are looking for the alleged offender who left the scene shortly after 7:30 am.

The police officer investigating the incident has described the incident to 9 News as “unprovoked” and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
