Samoan researcher Ms Aniva Hunkin.

When her father had a cardiovascular attack two years ago, Aniva Hunkin realised how lucky he was that someone in the family noticed early signs and sought emergency medical assistance.

Aniva Hunkin is researching the experiences of Pasefika men who have had heart failure in the hope that it would educate others on recognising the early signs of an impending cardiovascular attack and seek early medical assistance.

She told us she is also interested in the general well-being (manuia) of men who have had heart failure and the support and well-being of their families (aiga).
