Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born in 1926.
As a teenager in the Second World War, Princess Elizabeth served in the women's branch of the British Army and trained as a driver and mechanic.
In 1947, she married Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark and had four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward.
That trip was cut short after the sudden death of her father, King George the Sixth.
After months of preparation, on June the 2nd 1953, the young princess was crowned at Westminster Abbey in London.
Watched by tens of millions around the world, The Coronation proved to be a watershed moment for the relatively new medium of television.
