Victoria has become the first state in the country to enforce a levy on short-term rental properties found on platforms like Airbnb.

Premier Daniel Andrews says the 7.5 per cent levy will help address the state's housing crisis. The levy is expected to raise $70 million a year from 2025 onwards.

He also announced the state is committed to building 800,000 homes over the next decade.
