Approximately 50 children are in hospital in the southern French city of Nice after a truck ploughed into Bastille Day celebrations along the main promenade killing 84 people.

The children were in the paediatric hospital of Nice, and news agency AFP cites a spokesman for the hospital saying that some were between life and death. Two died in surgery Friday morning, it says.

The Interior Ministry has said 84 people were killed in the attacks and 18 are in critical condition, but those numbers were expected to change.
