A year eight student in Adelaide has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Unley High School student was found to have the virus on Friday, days after a teacher at the school also returned a positive test.

The school was closed after the teacher's infection was confirmed but reopened on Friday.
"It is important that you know that SA Health have confirmed there is no further risk at Unley High School due to this child," principal Greg Rolton said in an email to parents.

Mr Rolton said extra hygiene and social distancing measures have been implemented, including more handwashing stations and regular reminder bells to wash hands.

“Extra support for student wellbeing will be provided by an expanded counselling team to confidentially discus any concerns."

The news comes as universities in South Australia transitioned to online teaching.

From Monday, Flinders University began transitioning classes to an online format.

UniSA said on Tuesday it is switching to teaching online only from Monday March 23 until June 29. It added that tutorials are expected to be fully online by March 30.

Until that date, social distancing of 1.5 metres between students will be implemented in classrooms.

The move comes after the Adelaide University Student Representative Council raised concerns that students were being asked to put their physical health at risk by attending classes on campus.

If you believe you may have contracted the virus, call your doctor, don’t visit, or contact the national Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.

If you are struggling to breathe or experiencing a medical emergency, call 000.
