The popularity of the hashtag #JeSuisChien in honour of slain French police dog Diesel has incited the ire of some social media users, who think it is disrespectful to the human victims of the Paris attacks.

The French police announced Diesel had been killed during a massive police raid in the Paris suburb of St Denis on Wednesday that left at least two dead, including a female suicide bomber.
The seven-year-old Belgian Shepherd was killed by suspected terrorists during the operation.

However animal lovers and animal rights groups around the world have embraced the hastag, saying Diesel was a legitimate victim.
However some Twitters users have decried what they see as people placing the life of a dog over human victims.
Two suspected jihadists were killed during the raid which saw automatic gunfire and explosions ring through the working class suburb from 4am.

One of them was a woman who detonated an explosives vest.
