Anthony Albanese contracts COVID-19 again, delaying National Cabinet meeting

The prime minister was scheduled to have a National Cabinet meeting focused on energy on Wednesday, but has now been postponed.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

Mr Albanese made the announcement on Twitter on Monday afternoon, urging others to test themselves for the virus if they are feeling unwell.

"This afternoon I had a routine PCR test which has returned a positive result for COVID-19," Mr Albanese said on Monday.

"I will be isolating and will continue to work from home," he wrote.

"I encourage anyone who is unwell to test and to take any extra precautions to keep their families and neighbours well."
Mr Albanese, who is up to date with his booster shots, was set to meet with state and territory leaders on Wednesday for a National Cabinet meeting, but this will now be rescheduled.

Energy prices is set to be the focus of the next meeting as the nation battles soaring energy prices, with the federal government considering interventions in energy markets — including fossil fuel price caps — in a bid to bring prices under control.

Both the NSW and Queensland premiers , and called for federal compensation if such measures start eating into state finances.

This is the second time the prime minister has contracted the virus, the earlier this year.
