Doubts have been cast on claims by Pauline Hanson and her chief of staff James Ashby that a suggestion that they make money from One Nation candidates was immediately "knocked on the head".

In a recording of a party meeting from last year obtained by News Corp, Mr Ashby is heard proposing the party could "make some money" at the upcoming Queensland election by charging candidates to cover half the cost of campaign expenses.

Responding in Perth on Monday, Senator Hanson said her chief-of-staff's suggestion was swiftly shut down.

"It didn't go ahead. It was an issue that was raised and it was knocked on the head there and then," she said.

But the Courier-Mail on Tuesday reported an extended recording from that two-hour meeting showed the issue was not immediately settled.

Labor Senator Murray Watt has called on the police and electoral commission to investigate Senator Hanson, Mr Ashby and One Nation for fraud.

Mr Ashby has also said One Nation will lodge a complaint with police over the secret recording, which he says was illegal.
