Aust, Japan PMs meeting to focus on trade

Prime Minister Scott Morrison will highlight Australia's trade and investment relationship with Japan when he meets with his Japanese counterpart this week.

Australia and Japan's relationship has led to "immense progress and opportunity", Prime Minister Scott Morrison has declared ahead of a meeting with his Japanese counterpart.

Mr Morrison will meet Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Darwin on Friday, in between this year's ASEAN and APEC meetings, to highlight trade and investment links.

"Our nations share common perspectives on strategic and economic issues, and I look forward to furthering the development of our bilateral ties," Mr Morrison said in a statement on Wednesday.
