The Australian government has reaffirmed its commitment to the beleaguered F-35 fighter jet program, after US President-elect Donald Trump again criticised the manufacturer over escalating costs.

Donald Trump tweeted his displeasure with Lockeet Martin, and urged competitor Boeing to “price-out a comparable F-18 Super Hornet.”
The Australian Government through is standing by its multi-billion commitment for 72 F-35 planes, which it says is the best aircraft to meet Australia’s operational requirements.

The Australia Defence Association described Mr Trump’s comments as a bargaining strategy in an endeavour to drive costs down.

The F-35 program has been beset by cost blowouts and setbacks as it works to deliver the aircraft to numerous countries, including Australia.
