Julia Gillard's fiery speech in parliament yesterday has made headlines around the world, with commentators from independent media sites declaring the performance a blistering success.
The Australian Prime Minister gave a to Tony Abbott after the opposition leader opened question time by seeking to have Peter Slipper removed as speaker over sexual harassment claims.
Ms Gillard hit back by claiming Mr Abbott had double standards when it came to sexism, saying he had now decided Mr Slipper was sexist because it suited his political purpose.
She opened her speech by declaring: "I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man, I will not. Not now, not ever."
"If he wants to know what misogyny looks like in modern Australia he doesn't need a motion in the house of Representatives, he needs a mirror," she said.
The speech was picked up by media around the world, with feminist website calling it “the best thing you'll see all day.”
Viral news site broke Gillard's speech into a series of animated GIFs, calling it “awesome”.

In probably the most bizzare mention of the PM's speech, Hollywood-centric movie website offers up five 'Oscar calibre' actors who could play Julia Gillard - referred to as Australia's sexism-fighting Iron Lady - in a biopic. The Prime Minister also took aim at the opposition leader for his silence over comments Alan Jones made at a Young Liberals function, where he said Ms Gillard's father “died of shame”.
