A 98-run partnership between Corinne Hall and Mikayla Hinkley has secured Hobart Hurricanes an upset Women's Big Bash League win over Brisbane Heat.

Chasing 130 for victory, the last-placed Hurricanes stumbled to 4-29 in the sixth over before the pair combined to launch a rescue mission.

The required run-rate ballooned to more than eight an over but Hall (48) and Hinkley (45 not out from 35 balls) kept their cool before turning up the tempo late.

Hall was cramping during her innings and was at one point left lying in agony after diving to make her ground.

She was stumped in the 18th over off the spin of allrounder Grace Harris (3-23), who was the Heat's best with the ball, but by then had done enough.

Hinkley brought up the five-wicket win, the Hurricanes' second of the season, with a four over the wicketkeeper's head.

The shock loss means the Heat drop to fourth on the ladder after nine matches.

Earlier, Hobart seamer Meg Phillips took 3-16 of four overs as the Heat were bowled out for 129 with an over remaining.

Harris hit five boundaries in a top score of 23 but had little support as the Hurricanes' spinners tightened the screws in the middle overs.

England international Alex Hartley, Brooke Hepburn and captain Sasha Moloney took two wickets each.
