Brandis demands answers from Dastyari

Attorney-General George Brandis warns Labor's Sam Dastyari may have been "compromised" by the payments of personal debts by Chinese companies.

Attorney-General George Brandis has demanded Sam Dastyari explain his links to two Chinese companies that paid the Labor senator's personal debts.

The "carefully opaque way" in which the payments were declared raised questions about whether he had been compromised.

"If he has been compromised that is a very grave matter," Senator Brandis told parliament on Thursday.
