Car crashes into Sydney childcare centre

A car has ploughed through the fence of a childcare centre in Sydney, stopping short of hitting the building where the children were sleeping.

A car has crashed through the fence of a childcare centre in Sydney's northwest while about 60 children were having their post-lunch nap.

The car, driven by a man believed to be aged in his 40s, crashed through the yard of the childcare centre on Talavera Road in Macquarie Park about 1.30pm on Tuesday, police say.

About 60 children were asleep inside the centre at the time, a Macquarie Early Learning Centre spokeswoman told AAP.

"We were all inside. We'd been inside for some time," she said.

She said two sections of the fence were damaged and most of the play equipment had been moved inside because of earlier rain.
