Details of the RSPCA's work in South Australia in 2017/18

THE RSPCA'S CATALOGUE OF CRUELTY IN SA:

* In 2017/18 the RSPCA in SA investigated 4077 reports of animal cruelty

* It prosecuted 79 people with 18 receiving prison terms of which 15 were suspended.

* 93 per cent of prosecution cases related to inadequate food, water, living conditions or veterinary care.

* 1324 animals were seized or surrendered to the RSPCA.

* More than half the animals seized or surrendered were dogs.

* Inspectors found 83 animals dead on arrival and another 316 had to be euthanised .
