Condolences over death of Labor MP's wife

Opposition and government MPs have come together to offer condolences and thoughts for Labor MP Brendan O'Connor after the death of his wife Jodi.

Opposition and government MPs have joined together in a moment of solidarity to offer condolences to Labor MP Brendan O'Connor after the death of his wife Jodi Dack.

Ms Dack died last week after a long battle with cancer, six years after she was first diagnosed.

The couple have a young daughter, Una Rose.

Head of opposition business Tony Burke quoted in parliament Mr O'Connor's own description of Ms Dack as someone who was wise, strong, funny, generous, kind and lived life to the fullest.

"(We want) simply for Brendan to know that from all members the sympathy is real and the sympathy is strong," he said.

"The solidarity that Brendan conveys and offers so strongly himself, right now is with him and with his family."

Government minister Alan Tudge passed on condolences from his coalition colleagues.

"It's a very sad time for Brendan O'Connor. We do feel for him very deeply and we offer our thoughts to him and our prayers to him," he said.

Mr O'Connor has been granted leave until later this month.
