The government announced in April its intention to make it harder to become an Australian citizen.

Introducing reforms to parliament in June, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the proposed legislation "reinforces the integrity of our citizenship program."

"This will help maintain strong public support for migration and the value of Australian citizenship in what is an increasingly challenging national security environment and complex global security situation,” he said.

At the heart of the changes is a more difficult citizenship test, including a separate English component requiring applicants to demonstrate “competent” proficiency.

Almost 99 per cent of people who sat the previous citizenship test each year passed.

But just how easy was it?

Try it below. 15 correct answers from 20 questions are needed to pass the test.
Questions were collected by SBS World News from the government’s website in 2015.
