Eurovision fans have backed Jessica Mauboy’s #We Got Love to secure her a place in the top 10.

Mauboy will represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Lisbon, Portugal - which will be broadcast exclusively on SBS to thousands of fans at home from May 9 to May 12.

Born and raised in Darwin in the Northern Territory, the Australian singer said she wanted the song to connect with a global audience.

"I wanted to write a song that captured that instinctive sense of joy of how a great song can change the darkest of moods into happiness," Mauboy said.

The new song has drawn a positive response from fans who have different interpretations of its meaning.

Ben Mattel felt the song celebrated love, reflecting Australia's move to legalise same-sex marriage last year.

He tweeted: "We just legalised same-sex marriage! #WeGotLove tells the tale of overcoming the long and arduous process of legalising it."

Australian fans get behind their star

Australian fans have come out in support of their singer's Eurovision entry including ABC Radio and Eurovision co-host Myf Warhurst who tweeted: "HERE IT IS Australia and it's a cracker!"
Meanwhile Leonie Sii tweeted the song’s hopes in the competition rested on a strong vocal performance from Jessica Mauboy: "Hmm, Australia's song is pretty good this year. Let's hope it delivers well and Jessica Mauboy nails the vocals."
For writer Shannon Molloy the song brought back memories of Jessica Mauboy's performance at the Eurovision Contest in 2014 as a special guest of the competition held in Copenhagen.

He tweeted: "Just reliving Mauboy's stunning interval act at Eurovision a few years back. Bring on May!"

Fans predict top 10 finish

#We Got Love has won over Eurovision fans around the world.

Many fans overseas predicted Jessica Mauboy will have a successful run in the European song completion.

Diego Alves, from Portugal, tweeted #We Got Love could get a top 10 finish: "The Australian entry is one of those cases wherein the music is nothing special but artist makes a difference."

Andrew Jones from the United Kingdom felt Australia was now leading his top 10 list. He tweeted: "I have SO MUCH LOVE for Jessica Mauboy's entry. Australia for the WIN!"
Joao Diego, from Portugal, held more a modest prediction for the song tweeting: "Is my least favourite Australian song by far but, in her defence, I love the other three songs."
Eurovision fan Jack Walker from the United Kingdom tweeted #WeGotLove would be a fitting anthem for next month's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast: "Once again Australia delivers a sweet contemporary song for Eurovision, no wonder they're here to stay #Lisbon2018."
