Hobart Hurricanes quick Riley Meredith has found some high praise from former Test stars Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson.

The 22-year-old took 3-15, including the wicket of Cameron Bancroft on his comeback to top-flight cricket, in the Hurricanes' six-wicket Big Bash League win over the Perth Scorchers in Launceston on Sunday.

The Scorchers were kept to just 8-107, a total the Hurricanes mowed down with 15 balls to spare to go undefeated from four matches.

Most of the attention was on Bancroft's brief two-run three-ball stay but it quickly turned to the man who dismissed him.

Meredith had Bancroft edging behind in the fourth over, after sending down a 148km/h delivery to bowl Ashton Turner three balls earlier. The double-blow left the Scorchers reeling at 4-19.

Lee tweeted: "I've been really impressed with the pace of Riley Meredith tonight! Good wheels", while Johnson wrote "great pace & carry".

"It's pretty special when guys like that are giving you praise," Meredith told reporters after the match.

Meredith got his chance in the Hurricanes side after English import Tymal Mills suffered a tournament-ending hamstring injury before a game had been played.

"I probably thought I was just out of the team at the start of the tournament. Unfortunately he got injured and it opened a bit of a door for me," Meredith said.

"I'm pretty happy with how I'm bowling at the moment."

Meredith came into the BBL with solid Sheffield Shield form for Tasmania, where he's claimed 14 wickets at an average of 25 from four games this season.

The reception on opposition turf at UTAS Stadium wasn't as clear cut for Bancroft, who returned from a nine-month suspension for ball tampering.

Bancroft copped a few boos walking onto the ground but received warm applause as he departed.
