A former tennis pro charged over an alleged match-fixing scheme will plead guilty to a corrupt betting charge, a Sydney court has heard.

Nick Lukas Lindahl, 27, fronted Burwood Local Court on Monday to answer allegations he offered to "tank" a match at the 2013 Toowoomba Futures Six tournament, while another person successfully bet on the match outcome.

He will admit one charge of using corrupt conduct information, or inside information, to bet on an event, but the court heard Lindahl plans to fight a charge of concealing conduct, or agreement about conduct, that corrupts a betting outcome of events.
Magistrate Michelle Goodwin has agreed to withdraw two related charges.

Prosecutor Kate Long told the court on Monday that Lindahl is accused of making an offer to a junior tennis opponent to "tank" the September 2013 match they were to play three days later.

It's alleged that Lindahl made the offer through a third party, suggesting that the junior player pay him to throw the match because a win would hand the junior player his first ATP points, "effectively allowing him to play bigger and better matches".

That junior player believed he could win the match in his own right and turned Lindahl down, Sergeant Long said, before going straight to tennis officials.

It's alleged Lindahl then told two other men that he was planning to tank the match so they could place bets on its outcome.

But betting agency SportingBet "noticed the large number of bets being placed on this relatively minor tennis match" and suspended betting, Sgt Long said.

Lindahl did lose that match on September 11, 2013, the court heard, and all three men found themselves before the courts in NSW and Victoria.
