Star import Jofra Archer was booted out of the attack by the umpires and James Faulkner made a hero of himself as the Hobart Hurricanes pulled off a thrilling four-wicket win over the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium on Friday night.
In reply to the Scorchers' 9-177, Hobart reached the victory target with three balls to spare thanks to some miracle late hitting from Faulkner (28no off 20 balls).
Hobart needed 16 runs off the final Andrew Tye over, and Faulkner achieved the feat in three balls with a six, four, and six.
Veteran George Bailey (69 off 39 balls) was also critical in the triumph in front of a 36,612-strong crowd.
The result improved Hobart's record to 7-1, while the Scorchers' finals hopes are hanging by a thread at 3-6.
"I'm a bit stunned myself," Faulkner told Fox after hitting the winning runs.
"It was a really good chase. I backed my skill, I backed my training. I've had a lot of time in the nets."
Hurricanes paceman Archer was ordered out of the attack during his second over after bowling two illegal full tosses.
The 23-year-old received a warning after bowling a waist-high full toss to Whiteman in the sixth over.
And he was ordered out of the attack by the umpires after bowling a second full toss in his next over - this time the slower ball sailing high and wide over Whiteman's head.
Under cricket rules, a player must be taken out of the attack if they bowl two full tosses above waist height.
Archer, who had also bowled a bouncer that sailed well above Whiteman's head, finished with 0-19 from 1.4 overs.
The Scorchers were in all sorts of trouble at 3-7 in the second over after Michael Klinger and Cameron Bancroft fell for ducks.
A 77-run partnership between Whiteman (68 off 44 balls) and Hilton Cartwright (29 off 29) got the Scorchers back into the contest.
But they fell to 7-117 in the 15th over when debutant paceman David Moody completed a stunning run-out before snaring the scalps of Whiteman and Will Bosisto in consecutive balls.
However, there was another twist to come as Andrew Tye (25 off 12) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (31no off 15) hammered the Hurricanes late.
Coulter-Nile was particularly devastating, smashing Faulkner (3-36) for three sixes in the final over.
Whiteman couldn't take to the field during Hobart's innings after injuring his right quad while batting.
Spinner Ashton Agar has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament after breaking his finger at training on Thursday.
