Fund raising for NT car crash victim

Friends of Mehali Anastasios Pastrikos, seven, one of two people killed in a car crash in Darwin, are raising funds to help his young parents pay funeral costs.

Friends of the family of a seven-year-old boy killed in a horror car crash in Darwin this week have started an online page to raise money to help his young parents pay for his funeral.

Mehali Anastasios Pastrikos, seven, was one of two people killed when a Rav4 being driven by a 24-year-old woman crashed into a Ford Ranger being driven by a man aged 42.

A 21-year-old father of three, Wade Williams, who was in the car with Mehali and the woman was also killed.

One car is believed to have been speeding and ran a red light when it crashed into and T-boned the other in Berrimah just before midnight on Wednesday.

All funds raised on the GoFundMe page would be given to "Anastasi and the Pastrikos family towards funeral services", the page read.

"I have decided to set up this go fund to help the family with any cost that may arise," it said.

"Mehali is a very loved and beautiful boy. A true Darwin kid who loved spending time with his dad and going fishing."

The page had raised nearly $12,000 on Friday.

"We will miss seeing your gorgeous face around Bakewell primary," said one person on the page.

The woman who was driving and the other male driver are in Royal Darwin Hospital with serious injuries.

A police officer on his way home from work was the first on the scene when he drove past the accident by chance.

Major Crash detectives are investigating and believe that speed and running a red light were factors based on camera footage and may lay charges.
