The federal government has become "agnostic" about wind turbines under Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Former prime minister Tony Abbott and treasurer Joe Hockey waged war on renewable energy, particularly wind turbines, often describing them as ugly and a blight on the landscape.

Resources Minister Josh Frydenberg told ABC TV on Sunday the government was now "agnostic" when it comes to the particular form of energy used to reach the renewable energy target.
